Trump

You deftly shuffled the cards, I dealt.
You anteed, I upped the stakes.
You cut me just as quick and precisely
As sunlight slices a prism break.
You half-opened your heart to me,
You took me halfway there.
You secured an anchor line to my soul,
And left me dangling midair.
You cast me out and reeled me in,
And cast me a dozen times more.
The pitch from such a dizzying height
Played out your hand and slanted the score.
My heart and spirit lay broken
At your feet, crumpled in pain.
“And all the king’s horses, and all the king’s men”
Can never put them back together again.
