Falling Stars

We used to sit on moonless nights
And watch for falling stars,
With whispered wishes on our lips,
And eager, hopeful hearts.
Beneath a thousand twinkling orbs,
We wished into the night.
Like two small children with secrets to keep,
We wished we may...we wished we might.
But shooting stars are sometimes missed
Like shy stolen glances from someone near,
Or the soft brush of a playful plea
Whispered next to a naïve ear.
Unhurriedly, the moon began to rise,
And the dawn of a dream took shape.
And two lost souls, under moonlit skies,
Took a tandem leap of faith.
The wishes we whispered those moonless nights
Did not haphazardly come to be...
Fate truly is written in the stars,
And dreams are destiny.
Sitting once again under evening shade,
Hand in hand, stargazing in the cool night air,
The moonlight dances upon our hearts
And fills them full as we can bear.
