We laugh and joke, and talk about the weather
And never quite let down our guard
We never hug...heaven forbid!
We barely touch each other's heart.
But when you smile that crooked smile,
Or say a word a certain way,
A tiny flame sparks in my soul
And steals my breath away.
With the slightest glance or brush of hand,
We both shiver with surprise,
And a tremor rumbles thru our measured facade,
That virtually crumbles before our eyes.
Even still, I know our hearts’ deceptions
Will pick up and carry on…
Distances and circumstance
Being what they are... and long.
