True North

At loose ends and unable to find my bearings,
Distance and direction always crossed...
Uncertain of my position,
In the most familiar of crowds I was still lost.
With each foot that fell in front of the other,
Footprints in the sand on the shore...
Shallow breath and backward glance,
I always walked away wanting more.
It seemed life and love were purposely designed,
Destined to eclipse my soul.
A falling star nevertheless set
On landing the perfect theatrical role.
Then you touched my life and set me soaring...
My feet having never left the ground.
You were, and still are, the one that awakened my heart,
Spun me and my world full around.
You hung the moon and placed the sun,
And aligned my universe on course,
And left a thumbprint forever swirling
On the face of a compass that at last points true north.
