Lighthouse Keeper

The keeper of the lighthouse
Has forever dimmed the flame
That shone so brightly ‘cross the waters
For all who went or came.
A signal lantern shining
From atop the rocky knoll,
She stood tall and straight, and steady,
A steadfast compass for wayward souls.
Her daymark and bright beacon
Were a perpetual welcome sign,
She lighted the hearts of all she knew,
(My heart aches where she lighted mine)
Her guiding light led us safely home
When we ventured out too far,
Keeping vigil thru the storm,
Sure and true as the North Star.
And now the keeper of the lighthouse
Has left the watch gallery and gone
To fairer winds and calmer seas
Where her radiance will shine on.
So cherished are the memories
That brought us to this day,
And blessed are the angels
Who trim the lamp to light her way.
