My heart casts a backward glance,
And a ghost of a tear haunts my cheek.
Friends seems too casual a word for us,
And goodbye sounds bittersweet.
It is a deliberate effort, this letting go,
Setting memories up on the shelf.
No disparaging stones shall I throw,
No wistful guilt shall I place upon myself.
There’ll be more of you with me now that you’re gone,
And you’ll forever hold a part of me with you.
I’ll take the road ahead that winds out of sight,
And you’ll take the other, just out of view.
