Endings

Your goodbye is such a bitter pill to swallow,
It comes like a shallow last breath,
A heartbreaking whisper from heaven,
An unbearable living death.
It makes your love seem cruelly deceptive
As whiskey charm at 1a.m.
And all the nights spent wrapped in each other's arms...
A liquor insult screamed over and over again.
It is a heart that just stops beating,
Sunset shadows at dusk
That fade away before my eyes,
That descend and lay in the desert dust.
The final page in a half-done novel,
Chapters so carelessly penned.
I would not have written a scenario like this…
But I reread it over and over again.
