Circumstances

We laugh and joke, and talk about the weather,
And never quite let down our guard.
We never hug...heaven forbid!
We barely touch each other's heart.
But when you smile that crooked smile,
Or say a word a certain way,
A tiny flame sparks in my soul,
And steals my breath away.
The slightest glance, or brush of hand,
Causes shivers of surprise.
And a tremor rumbles thru the measured facade,
That virtually crumbles before our eyes.
Still, I know the heart in its deception,
Will pick up and carry on.
Distance and circumstance...
Being what they are and wrong.
