Broken Glass

You’ve known the jagged pain
Of walking on broken glass.
It’s cut deep, and suspended your heart,
But doesn’t forever last.
Just lay your tattered heart in my hand,
And give old wounds time to heal.
I’ll be surer than the next breath you take,
Constant and steady, on an even keel.
I’ll hold your wounded tenderness
‘Til it once again can be true.
I’ll save you from the weariness,
I’ll be your drowning rescue.
I’ll touch your heart
A thousand fathoms deep,
I’ll break into your dreams,
And lay with you in your sleep.
I’ll burn your heart to cinder
Thru long nights that linger into dawn,
And be the morning ripple
That stirs the deep-water pond.
Hearts get broken and mended
And broken all over again,
Take a leap of faith, and love will save you
In the arms of a lover and friend.
