For Allie
Dear little one, you are mommy's heart
And daddy's little princess,
Dancing around in ribbons and curls,
Or crawling under fences.
You are the apple of your brothers’ eye,
Your big sister’s best friend,
You bring me sunshiny little girl days
And rainbows without end.
You melt me with tender hugs and warm kisses,
And you hold my finger tight
As I watch you softly sleeping
After I’ve tucked you into bed at night.
Some years from now, when you’re twenty-nine,
With your own daughter or two,
In my mind I’ll still see you dancing tippytoe,
Playing pattycake and peek-a-boo.
