Process

  1. Buy parts from the list above.
  2. Check to make sure all parts are present before installation.
  3. Get a Phillips screwdriver and a mini-crescent wrench.
  4. Open up the computer case and take out all the packages of nuts and screws and board risers that hold the board down to the computer case.
  5. Take the motherboard out of the box carefully and attach the motherboard to the computer case.
  6. Attach the power supply cable from the computer case to the motherboard. Make sure to set all the jumpers for the processor and attach the processor to either slot or socket.
  7. Take the RAM memory chip and push it into the RAM slot very carefully. Push down and make sure connectors alongside the chip are secure.
  8. Make sure to connect the computer case wires to the motherboard. Shut off the wire, the hard drive wire and the speaker wire from case.
  9. Attach the video card. Loosen one of the slots behind the case and then attach the sound card. Do the same process with the video card and the modem.

Install the CDROM into upper bay and secure with the four screws. Do the same thing at the bottom with the hard drive and the floppy drive.

  10. Attach ribbons to the CDROM, the hard drive and the floppy drive and connect to the motherboard in the appropriate slots.
  11. Then close up the computer case after all wire attachment devices have been installed properly and close case.
  12. Attach peripherals.
  13. Put the boot floppy disc for Windows Start up into the floppy drive and format the hard drive.
  14. After the computer has been formatted, install the Windows disc into the CD ROM and install the operating system. After the operating system is installed, install appropriate software for the video card, the sound card, and the modem. If done properly, everything should be operational.
  15. Go into My Computer/Control Panel. Go into Systems. Go into System Properties and click on Device Manager and check to make sure you have no question marks. If you have questions marks, you must reinstall software for that particular device.
  16. COMPUTER IS OPERATIONAL!
