M. Eliza Hamilton Abégúndé is a poet, novelist, teacher, artist-in-residence and Reiki Master whose work focuses on recovering the lost voices of the Middle Passage through cellular memory.

She has received fellowships from Cave Canem, Norcroft and the Sacatar (Brasil) Foundation and grants from the Illinois Arts Council and Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.

Her work has been published in numerous anthologies and journals, including Beyond the Frontier: African-American Poetry for the 21st Century, Knowing Stones: Poems of Exotic Places, Jane's Stories II, nocturnes(re)view of literary arts and rhino. She has been featured on PBS, WBEZ, WVON, and CBS Sunday Morning.

She is also the author of three chapbooks of poetry: What Is Now Unanswerable, Still Breathing and Wishful Thinking, which was the Summer Book Club selection in 2003 for Jamaican Diaspora.
