State Route 821

When the current state highway numbering system was first posted in January 1964, there was no SR 821. US 97 followed the route of what was to become SR 821 in the Yakima River Canyon between the Yakima and Ellensburg areas. I-82 was completed between Jct I-90 near Ellensburg and Exit 26 circa 1971. US 97 was shifted from the canyon route to I-82. Former US 97 via the canyon route became SR 821. SR 821 starts at I-82/US 97 Exit 26 and heads north via former US 97 to the southern outskirts of Ellensburg, then heads east via a former county road to I-82/US 97 Exit 3 and ends. SR 821 is 25.21 miles long.
