SR 278 was added to the state highway system effective April 1, 1992. Beginning at Jct SR 27 in Rockford, SR 278 heads east to the Washington-Idaho state line, where WA SR 278 ends and ID SR 58 begins. SR 278 is 5.50 miles long.
