State Route 162

When first posted as such in January 1964, SR 162 began in Downtown Puyallup and headed east on Pioneer Ave. East of Puyallup and south of Sumner, Pioneer Ave, intersects with Valley Ave and turns right towards Orting. SR 162 continued along Pioneer to Orting and South Prairie, ending at Jct SR 165 south of Buckley. In the early 1970s, the SR 161/512 freeway was built to the east of Downtown Puyallup. The western terminus of SR 162 was shifted to the interchange with this freeway. In the later 1970s, the Pioneer to Valley section of SR 162 was dropped from the state highway system and Valley from Jct SR 410 in Sumner to Pioneer was added. Today, SR 162 is 17.90 miles long.

Before 1964, SR 162 was SSH 5E
