The Bon Marche

Westfield Shoppingtown Southcenter (Tukwila)

Southcenter Mall opened in 1968. It was the first enclosed climate controlled superregional shopping center in the Seattle area. The original anchor stores included The Bon Marche, Frederick & Nelson, J C Penney, and Nordstrom. Sears replaced Frederick's after Frederick & Nelson went out of business in the early 1990s. The Penney's end of the mall was expanded to include a Mervyn's department store and more shops.

Allied Stores incorporated had been the original developer of Southcenter, Northgate, Tacoma Mall, and Columbia Center. These malls have changed hands over time. Southcenter is now a Westfield mall.

This photograph was taken in 2003 facing south from the noth parking lot.
