The Bon at Capital Mall opened in 1978 a few months before the mall itself opened. JC Penney and Lamonts opened at the same time as the mall. Frederick & Nelson built a store on the west end of the mall in 1980.
When Frederick and Nelson went out of business in the early 1990s, Mervyn's purchased some of the former Fredericks stores including the one at Capital Mall. The Lamonts store at Capital Mall was one not purchased by Gottshalks.
