Lodge 738 celebrating Oktoberfest

ENUMCLAW, Wash. -- The Oktoberfest party will be held Sunday, Oct. 13, with the Puget Sound Button Box Group providing the music.  All musicians are invited to join in during the jam session.  There will be a brief regular monthly meeting prior to the festivities.  The meeting begins at 12:30 p.m.  The party begins at 1:30 p.m.  Klobase, rolls, coffee and wine will be provided by the Lodge.  Everything else is potluck.  Remember to B.Y.O.B. if you so desire.  Bring your family and guests and enjoy the fall festivities.  As usual, members and friends of neighboring Lodges are highly welcome, including our sister lodge Slovenian Women's Union 79.

I am saddened to report that our good friend and former Lodge President Tom Zumek passed away in July.  He was preceded in death within a month by his wife Georgia.  The family helped many people during the Depression with the store they owned.  Also Tom was very active in the Black Diamond community affairs, serving as Fire Chief among other offices.  It appeared that the entire town of Black Diamond was at the funeral, such was the esteem to which Tom was held.  Our condolences to sons Tom and Rick, daughter Sandy and grandchildren, as well as the entire Zumek family.

A good number of members attended, supported and enjoyed the Lodge 11 picnic, even though it was marred by impending and actual rain (cloudbursts).  Larry Petrowski traveled all the way from Woodburn, Ore., where he now lives.

Mark your calendars for the Christmas Party which will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, with Santa Claus and music from the Puget Sound Button Box Group and other fine musicians.  Members of Slovenian Women's Union Branch 79 are also invited to join along with other local Lodges.  We will forgo the month's business meeting, so we can "deck the hall" at noon in preparation for Santa's arrival at about 2:30 p.m.

The party begins with music at 1 p.m., and two staging areas will be provided to keep the music going.  Bring your wrapped and clearly labeled presents if you would like Santa to distribute them to any of your family members.  Klobase, ham, rolls, coffee and wine will be provided by the Lodges.  Everything else is potluck, and remember to B.Y.O.B. if you so desire.
