Peregrine Falcon
2001
Yes! It's not a horse! Pencil on paper. This is a portrait of the rare and beautiful Peregrine Falcon. He is sometimes a common site here in the city of Worcester, nesting on buildings. Donated to the Tufts University Wildlife Clinic. |

Ibn Naar
2001
Pencil on paper. "Son of Fire" may not be the best name, but I should quickly chose it for him.. Who knows, when you're not looking he
could rear up and gallop down the desert! King of wind and fire! |

Al Nair al Dabaran
2000
Before I started vet school, I had a week of nothing to do, so one evening I decided I would do some artwork. I have an unused canvas, so I figured I would get inspired somehow. That evening I started with some sketches, and one result was this one,
which is an Arabian stallion I named "Al Nair al Dabaran" or Arabic for "the Bright one of the Follower" (another name for the brightest star in Hyades, Aldebaran). This is only one idea I had for my canvas. This particular image is a detail of the whole one. Please click on it to see the entire drawing. |

Ibn Sham
2000
Yet another idea for my canvas, though this was actually for a thank you card to some friends of mine. "Ibn Sham" or son of the Sun is a colored pencil drawing on paper of a golden bay Arabian stallion. |

Cause & Effect
1997
My second painting on canvas with acrylics ever. The photo shows the subject - WW Tappan Zee, a zebra sculpture - incorporated into
a painting. This was a project in my senior year of high school. The idea was to take an object and place it in a painting somehow. The result of my painting
was the illusion that this is a wild zebra on the Serengeti plain. However, upon closer examination, it does not seem that way.... Hence "Cause & Effect". Have to see in person to understand, I think. Owned by the artist.

A study in composition
1997
Tempera on whiteboard. This was another class project in which the idea was to make a composition using common art supplies around the room. Tempera paints are
very flat, so it was also a challenge to make them jump out of the picture. The background is of the art room floor, and the other elements are a colored pencil,
regular #2 pencil, and two unused erasers. This particular piece was entered in a competition at Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA with other high schools' entries.
It managed to win a third in the Painting Category - a rather large category! Owned by the artist. |
|
Rock study
1996
This was yet another class project in which the idea was to paint a rock as realistically as possible and then incorporate it into a surrounding.
The medium was watercolor - which I'm not all that experienced with. I painted rocks many times before deciding I had achieved realism. For fun, I through in a mouse in my surroundings...
right along with the desert.... Owned by the artist. |
|
Tetrahedron
1995
Tempera on whiteboard. This was another class project in which the idea was to make a composition of shapes and patterns. I called this painting "Tetrahedron" only because it stands in the center.... An older piece, but one of my favorites. Owned by the artist. |
|
Finnhorse of riding type
1995
Pencil on paper. Very simple! I had some extra time in my senior art class, so I drew a picture of a Finnhorse. Though I can see now that it has conformation faults, it still has
the shading and detail that I still incorporate into my work today.

|
And you thought I was taking notes...!
1995
Pencil on notebook paper (!). Even simpler... Sometimes (ok..more frequently than that) I would get bored with a class and just draw in my notebooks.
Horses, being my favorite subjects, filled my pages of notes! Sometimes they took a whole page, such as this fellow here. He's no particular breed, but he was far more
interesting than whatever class I was taking! This was back in high school as well. Since I got to college, I've had less time for my
2-D work...even in notebooks...!

Educational Guide Cover 1996-1997
1995
Every year, the art department of my high school selects a student (usually a junior, which I was) to design the cover of the educational guide. Creativity
is encouraged of course! I was asked to put everything togther - drawing, graphics, etc. by late 1995 so the book could be distributed in 1996. The main
theme I went for was "the key to education [the diploma, ultimately] will open the box of possibilities." So far, I can say that is how my life has been
since high school! This is the original work, which had the lettering carefully taped on.... The actual cover had everything straightened out. Please go check out the home page of
Wachusett Regional High School.
