Revelation 9:1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star
fall from
heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key
of the bottomless
pit.
The "key" question is who the him is who was given the key to the bottomless pit.
It appears to read that the star who falls from heaven is given this key but it can also be read that the fifth angels sounds, and to him was given the key.
To find out which truely has possession of this important key, a key
to more or less a prison, we will look at this verse:
Revelation 20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having
the key
of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
If satan had the key he wouldn't have given it back.
Satan is on the Earth at this time, but the angel comes down from Heaven
with the key. This tells us that this angel certainly isn't satan and that
the key remained in the possesion of this angel.
Revelation 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent,
which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
Revelation 20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him
up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no
more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he
must be loosed a little season.
This angel places this chain upon satan to bind him physically, and
then the angel locks satan within the pit for the duration of the millenium.
At no time did satan have physical possession of this key. It would be
similiar to giving a master key to a prison to one of the most dangerous
inmates, it simply wouldn't happen.
Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Christ was the original owner of this key, so He would have given this
key to the angel that opened the pit for satan, and is possibly the same
angel that will also put satan in this pit and lock him inside for the
duration of the millenium.
