The U.S.S. COLE-12 OCTOBER, 2000

Muted bugles play "Taps"
As the sea laps
Secret words
Against the ships hulls.

If war has reason
But no excuse,
What then is this act's use?
It is a reminder.

We are all born to die
For this act we do know why.
These young men and women
were our best
And now have stood the test.

Parents still weep, lovers cry,
A nation mourns and wants to know,
"WHY?"
Simple, these were our best.
They now have transcended evil's test.

Muted voices singing hymns
For a moment forgetting deaths so grim,
This misty, cold and gray day
It is not Is is for our daughters and sons we pray.
