Club Diver Course

What the course involves:

You will get an introductory lesson that involves a talk on the club, and about the BSAC. You will then be introduced to the aqualung and spend around half an hour swimming under water in the company of an experienced instructor. Depending on your confidence, you may also get to try a few manoeuvres under water.

The full Club Diver course involves a number (usually about eight) of sessions in the pool, learning to assemble, and safely use the equipment. This is backed up by a number of theory lessons that will explain how the kit works, the effect of pressure, temperature and depth, and some rescue work.

Only when you are confident on the swimming pool will you progress to some open water dives. This usually involves a visit to an inland site, where the conditions can be carefully controlled. Here you will practise what you have learned in the pool and the classroom, on progressively deeper dives.

Finally we will take you out on our boat for the final open water dives required for you to qualify as a BSAC Club Diver. At this stage you will be confident and competent enough to dive to a depth of 20m with others of the same, or more, experience. Typically you will dive with Dive Leaders with at least five years' experience as you build up your own experience in some of the most interesting waters of the world.

What it will all cost:

I can't kid you that this is a particularly cheap sport, but then again, it's not quite as expensive as many people think. Typically we can train you to Club Diver level for around 500 pounds.

This may seem rather a lot of money, but you don't have to pay it all at once !!! What we will do when you join the branch and start your training is to charge you a fee that covers your membership, and the initial pool training. This breaks down to:

Branch Membership 80.00
BSAC Membership 35.00
Theory Work Books 20.00
Pool Training Costs 80.00

which gives an initial fee of 215.00

Don't forget that this includes your full year's membership, use of the pool (normally for eight weeks, but actually as long as it takes you), cylinder, regulator, and BC use, and all air, and all of the lectures.

further costs include purchase of basic pool equipment (mask, fins, snorkel) at about 100.00, a full sport diver medical at 25.00, and the cost of your open water dives which is usually about 60.00 For the open water dives you will also have to hire or buy your own kit including regulator, cylinder, exposure suit etc. Typically this will cost another 100.00

initial training and membership 215.00
sport diver medical 25.00
basic mask, fins, snorkel 100.00
hire of open water kit 100.00
open water and boat dives 60.00
