Welcome Appendix A: A Magic Tome, a section dedicated to the magic used in The New Days. I hope to, as the story progresses, compile a list of every spell used. If you see a spell listed that is just given a description and not a name or incantation, it's that way because a it has not yet been given in the story, and you wouldn't want me telling you too much, would you?
All magic users are called Mancers.
The biggest theme you will notice is that a short poem precedes the casting of most spells. The story will explain why later, then I will add it here. For now, I will tell you that all humans do have to use incantations to cast spells.
Words and names hold a lot of power in this world. You have to know the proper words and pronunciations to cast any spell. Also, your "true name" really does give someone power over you if they know the proper spell, so you have to be careful. And anyone doing that spell must have the name exactly right. No, your given name is not going to be your true name, but not everyone in the story knows that just yet. I'll elaborate in the story.

Sets an invisible barrier around the target, that will block any physical attack.

Encases the target(s) in ice. Risk: an inexperienced or weak Mancer can be caught in the spell while casting it.
