Chapter III
Decisions

Lian blinked her eyes, sat up, and peered around the room. She didn't really see much in the pre-dawn light that was coming through Kagome's window. She shook her head and rubbed her eyes to get rid of the fog of sleep that still hovered around her a bit. Now fully awake she sighed and flopped back onto the futon that she had been sleeping on.

"You are so dead dad" she muttered. Narrowing her eyes she thought of how many times her father had burst into her room chirping good morning around this time.

"It must be conditioned reflex to wake up at this time now."

Grumbling she flipped onto her stomach punching her pillow with a vengeance and then propped her head on it thinking.

"I wonder what Kagome's reaction is going to be when I tell her I'm going with them back into the past" she whispered to herself.

Sighing Lian decided she might as well get ready to face the day. After getting dressed Lian stood over Kagome's bed looking at the peacefully sleeping girl. She smiled, went over to the window, looked out and saw the sun was now just starting to peek over the hills in the far distance.

Walking over to one of her bags she said to herself "well I should get some practice in." Kneeling in front of one of her bags she finally picked a hair band out of her bags and pulled her hair back into a ponytail. Then getting to her feet she turned and started to go out the door, stopping she glanced back at Kagome.

"I finally found a friend." Lian whispered. She remembered yesterday when, in this room, Kagome had welcomed her and said having her here would be like having a sister. Lian had searched Kagome's eyes and saw that she had truly meant what she said.

Turning Lian went out the door and down the stairs.

When Lian reached the bottom step she listened for any sounds of activity that might mean someone else was up and about. Hearing nothing she smiled and went out the front door to the yard of the shrine.

Seeing there was adequate room for movement she gave a satisfied nod, dropped the towel she had brought with her, and then walked into the middle of the yard. Facing the rising sun and the shrine doors Lian closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She then let it out slowly and felt her body relax. Opening her eyes she began to do her morning stretching exercises. After about fifteen minutes of this she paused in her work out to listen to see if anyone had risen yet. Hearing nothing coming from the house she nodded and started on the more rigorous parts of her morning routine. During all this Lian never noticed a small red and gold creature hidden within the leaves of a tree nearby watching her.

Concentrating she began to punch the air in front of her. The punches were soon followed by kicks, then a combination of the two. She did a few small jump kicks then stopped and checked her body for any muscle twinges that told her when she was over doing things. Feeling nothing but a rush from the movements she nodded and decided to try one more thing before she stopped.

Pacing a few feet from where she had been standing she turned with her back to the well. Closing her eyes she did a back flip and landed on her feet. Opening her eyes she grinned.

"Seems I haven't lost it. Well one is no big deal lets see if I can do a succession of them."

Closing her eyes she let her body relax and began. She did three back flips and on the last one she decided to get cocky and added a twist in mid air before she landed on the fourth. When Lian landed on the last flip she turned and raised her arms to the sky.

That was when she heard the slow clapping. Startled she squeaked and her eyes popped open. Hearing Lian give the startled squeak the little creature gave a small hissing noise and glared at Inu-Yasha, but still did not reveal itself. No more than four feet from Lian was Inu-Yasha leaning against the open doorway of the well's enclosure.

Narrowing her eyes Lian growled "how long have you been there?"

Inu-Yasha just watched her with a smirk on his face.

"Fine" Lian huffed "I don't care if you tell me or not." She spun around and headed for the porch of the shrine. She grabbed the towel she had dropped there and once again she listened to see if anyone was awake yet. Hearing nothing she nodded and noted that the sun was now over the hills bathing the town in it's golden glow.

"Hmm, guess it's a little after seven right now. Still a little more time until people get up." Turing to look at Inu-Yasha who still stood in the doorway to the well she amended her last thought. "A little more time until most Humans get up." Lian went up the steps and opened the front door, not giving Inu-Yasha any thought she went through and shut the door behind her.

She went up the steps, opened Kagome's door quietly, and stepped into the room. She had pulled her shirt half way off when she noticed a face in the window. Quickly dropping her shirt as her fury began to rise she stalked over to the window and pushed it open. Inu-Yasha bounded from the branch, he had been sitting on, to the window ledge.

"What the hell do you think you're doing here" Lian ground out through clenched teeth.

"It's been four days. Kagome was supposed to be back yesterday, so I'm taking her now." With that said Inu-Yasha pushed by Lian and started to walk over to Kagome.

"The blazes you are."

That muttered sentence was the only warning he got before he felt himself being tackled from behind.

Watching from a tree branch across from the window the small creature gave Lian a silent cheer.

Kagome rubbed her eyes and looked in the direction of where the voices that disturbed her sleep had come from. A hilarious sight greeted her. There was Inu-Yasha flat on his stomach on the floor with Lian sitting on his back with her hands pressing his shoulders down.

"You are not going to disturb her" Lian hissed.

"Get off me wench" Inu-Yasha growled.

"Umm guys" Kagome said.

"Not until you agree to behave"

"Behave" Inu-Yasha exclaimed "I am not a puppy!" he growled as he picked himself of the floor heaving Lian backwards. Lian squeaked and rolled off of Inu-Yasha and quickly regained her footing, glaring at the half demon in front of her.

Kagome watched the two have a glaring match for a moment before she whistled to get their attention.

"People what is going on here?"

Seeing Kagome awake Lian hissed at Inu-Yasha "look what you've done, you woke her up."

"Feh, about time." Turning to Kagome Inu-Yasha said " You'd better hurry I'm not going to wait much longer and we are going to leave soon whether you're ready or not."

Before Kagome could reply Lian said "You are going to have to wait a little bit longer whether you like it or not fang boy."

"Who the hell are you calling fang boy. Today is the fourth day Kagome's been here. She was only supposed to come back for three days and now your telling me I have to wait longer. Why the hell should I ?" Inu-Yasha snarled.

Smirking at Inu-Yasha Lian replied "I'm going with you and I'll need supplies."

Inu-Yasha's mouth dropped open and Kagome just stared at her.

"L-Lian you can't mean that. It's too dangerous" Kagome sputtered.

Turning to Kagome Lian smiled "I can take care of myself thank you and I want to help."

"But" Kagome said weakly.

"No buts, I'm coming with you" Lian said forcefully staring at Kagome.

"Waving his hands in a negative gesture Inu-Yasha said "No way are you coming with us."

Giving Inu-Yasha an impish grin she said "it's not up to you whether I come or not. You need Kagome and therefore whether I go with you guys is up to her." Turning to look at Kagome again she asked "so do I go or not?"

Kagome's eyes flicked to Inu-Yasha standing behind Lian shaking his head in a no gesture.

Without even looking away from Kagome Lian said "knock it off Inu-Yasha."

Seeing the startled then disgruntled look appear on his face Kagome laughed stuck her hand out to Lian and said "welcome aboard."
