Why 'Son of a Peach'?
The name 'Son of a Peach' comes from two places.
Firstly, in Japanese momo means 'peach'
and we are on Radio Momo! Secondly, one of the most famous folk tales in Japan
is Momotaro. This story is set in Okayama.
It is said that one day, a kindly old couple found a peach
floating down a stream. Taking it home, it opened up, and out popped
a boy! He was adopted by the couple, and went on to do battle with the
demons on an island in the Inland Sea, helped by
a dog, a pheasant, and a monkey.
You could say that he was the original Son of a Peach!!
Why can't I pick up Radio Momo?
Radio Momo is classed as a 'community radio station', and in Japan,
that means that the main purpose is to broadcast
during times of disaster - thus the low wattage.
Radio Momo operates on only 20 watts, broadcasting from Omotecho, with the
antenna on the Okayama Kokusai Hotel. The wattage has recently been raised to 20, so maybe if you didn't hear it before, try again!.
For better reception, try either switching your radio to mono instead of
stereo, or move it to a different location in the room.
Are there any other foreign music shows on Radio Momo?
None that play the sort of stuff we do! Although,
Motoko Bonishi and the gang on Twilight Gang
(Mon-Fri, 5-8pm) occasionally play good indie-type stuff amongst the
Japanese tracks they air. Otherwise, there is 'adult contemporary'
from 10-11am and 8-9pm (Mon-Fri) and on Saturday and Sunday beore 9am, and pop on Internet Express
(5-5:30pm on Saturdays, before the Peach!).
Where can I buy a Dan beard?
Dan's beard is a trademark and unavailable for reproduction. Without it,
he could not do Son of a Peach; it appears to give him special powers,
and in the hands of an amateur could be dangerous. Andy has
tried to grow a Dan beard but failed on all attempts.
