Beauly Snow Fly
(Mr. Snowie, as per Francis Francis)
Dressed by Monte Smith

Beauly Snow Fly

Name Beauly Snow Fly
Category Atlantic Salmon Fly
Body Lightish blue pig's wool, rather sparsely dressed
Ribs Silver tinsel and gold twist
Hackle Black heron hackle, long in fibre or longer than the hook
Wings A large bunch of bronze colored peacock herl around the shoulder. Over this is tied hackle-wise a ruff of bright orange mohair which gives the brilliant and unusual look to the fly

Beauly Snow Fly was tied by Salmonfly.Net Contributing Fly Tyer, Monte Smith. Monte rightly gives credit to Mr. Snowie of Iverness as per Francis Francis who wrote, "...there is one singular fly used on the River Beauly, called the Snow Fly, and as long as there is any snow on the river that fly kills well, indeed far better than any other."

You can see more of the flies tied by Monte Smith and many of his own designs at The Flies of Monte Smith.
