Leon's Coho Candy Treat
A Leon Guthrie Fly
Leons Coho Candy Treat, A Leon Guthrie Fly

Name Leon's Coho Candy Treat
Category Coho Salmon, Steelhead, and Rainbow Trout
HookSalmon Single size 4
Body Hook shank weighted with lead wire. Tie on small piece of Pink Marabou for tail with several strands of Veniard Krystal Flash (Pearl), then tie on a length of copper wire and a length of Pink Chenille (Fine FSC3). Leave for later. Now tie on and wind around the hook shank a good portion of Veniard Glister Sparkle Dubbing (Pearl). Keep even throughout the hook shank using tying thread lightly to hold dubbing at this stage. Now wind the copper wire tightly around the hook shank leaving at least 1/8 inch spacing on each turn and tie off copper wire at least 1/4 inch behind hook eye. Give the Sparkle Dubbing a very good rub with a Velcro hook tool to bring out all the Fibres. Now wind on the Length of Pink Chenille, also leaving a good space between each turn, and tie off and cut. Finally, tie on small portions at a time of Sparkle Dubbing behind Hook Eye, each time applying the small portions going around the Hook shank. Finally, tie off using Orange or Fire Orange Thread.
CommentsSuccessful pattern catching Steelhead and Rainbow at local fishery. Should be good for Coho or other species. Tight Lines!

This pattern was originated and tied by Leon Guthrie of Galashiels, Scotland. It is a close cousin of his fly Leon's Coho Candy (which see). Leon was a prolific contributor to Salmonfly.Net for a several years. He is now retired and fishing in his native Scotland and is a regular at the site Game Angler Online where you will see many more of his flies. Game Angler Online is great site where fly fisherman from around the world gather for discussion, fly swaps, information, and camaraderie. It's free to join, so if you would like to talk with Leon or any of the many other regulars, I recommend visiting it. You can see many more of Leon Guthrie's originals at The Flies of Leon Guthrie. See his notes below about this particular fly.

LEON'S NOTES: This pattern in my opinion is far superior to Original (Leon's Coho Candy ) catching Steelhead and Rainbow Trout at Local Fishery. Should be very good for Coho and or other species of Salmon.
