RECIPE (Original) 

HOOK - Size #4 through #6 1X Long, Sproat Bend

TAG - Danville #12 Silver Mylar Tinsel (tied short to provide lift to Tail)

TAIL - A blend of 2 parts Hot Pink and 1-part Hot Yellow Saddle Hackle fibers (tied long)

BODY - Hot Pink Rabbit Fur dubbing

RIB - Danville #12 Silver Mylar Tinsel

WING - (legal) Polar Bear under fur or White Kid Goat hair

COLLAR - (oversized or tied long) 4 turns Hot Yellow Hackle followed by 8 to 9 turns of Hot Pink Hackle

HEAD 'Black 6/0 Danville Flymaster thread

Conceived in 1961 by Bob Borden, the Borden Special was originally designed for fishing sea-run 'Cuts' in Oregon Coastal waters and the Siletz River.  This versatile shrimp-colored pattern has proven to be very effective for hooking up Pink and Coho Salmon as well as Summer Steelhead.  Mr. Borden's wonderful fly is also a must-have for anglers and guides throughout British Columbia when fishing 'in the salt' during autumn months.   In addition to being a renowned anger and fly tyer, Bob Borden is also the proprietor of HareLine Dubbin in Monroe, Oregon.  http://www.harelinedubbin.com/index.html
