Floozie, Pattern provided by Robert Souza, tied by John Glaspy

Name Floozie
Category Pacific Salmon
Hook Size 4, 3 X long streamer hook
ThreadPink
WeightAs desired
TailThree marabou feathers, hot pink over orange over hot pink with a few strands of Krystal flash on each side
BodyHot pink chenille
RibMedium silver wire counter-wound through palmered hackle
Hackle Hot pink saddle hackle palmered over body
HeadOrange chenille
Tying TipsWind the hackle from front to back, and then counter-wind the wire through the hackle. This significantly increases the fly's durability. Change the tail, hackle and body to purple and the wire to red and to make the traditional egg-sucking leech.

This version of the Floozie was tied by Contributing Fly Tyer, John Glaspy. You can see more of his flies for Pacific Salmon at The Flies of John Glaspy. See his notes about this fly below.

John's Notes: The Floozie is simply a color modification of the usual egg-sucking leech pattern, a variation which I first saw tied by Robert Souza of Thousand Oaks, California. In sunny weather, this is an excellent fly for all species of Pacific Salmon in Alaska and, in addition, is an equally excellent fly for the rainbow trout often lurking immediately downstream from the larger fish. This makes it a hard fly to beat for overall fun and fish catching when the weather is clear. Because it is as much a trout as a salmon fly, I usually tie the Floozie on smaller gap hooks, size 4 and smaller. When the weather is rainy or overcast, try the traditional egg-sucking leech pattern, with a purple tail, hackle and body and an orange or red chenille egg-head.
