Pooch Persuader

Name Pooch Persuader
Category Chum Salmon
Hook The pattern calls for a Tiemco 9394, size 6 (I didn't have one and tied it on an Alec Jackson Nickel.
Thread Black
Tail Thin silicone chartreuse skirt holographic tinsel ( I subbed Glow-Green Flashabou)
Butt Danville depth ray fluorescent nylon wool, hot orange
Body Danville depth ray fluorescent nylon wool, chartreuse
Hackle Chartreuse neck hackle, stripped on one side and palmered

I included this fly because it looked to me to be a promising fly to fish for estuary chum salmon (my apologies to Jay Taylor for deviating from the original design). It was, in fact a good choice for some of the early estuary fishing I did this fall for Chum, proving itself in a local Puget Sound estuary creek when the tide was outgoing. Jay Taylor says that he developed the Pooch Persuader to fish for the Chum Salmon in Hoodsport, the idea being that a sparse silhouette would appeal more to the chum then some of the more heavily dressed flies.
