The pattern for this fly came from the fine book by Dick Stewart and Farrow Allen, Flies for Steelhead. They write that this fly was originated by Al Doll, of Lansing Michigan, in the 1970s. It is known for its success on the Little Manistee river and is often fished with a singe-egg pattern as a dropper.
