Ripples: Poetry by Deborah Beachboard

            After Awhile

            life holds us down
            pressed into sheets not washed
            and cobwebs hanging
            like dirty strands of grief
            stuck around and sticking me
into the muck of your mislaid dream
            and my half-begun once-upon-a-time . . .

            mortality clinging
            clinging like a thief.
