Profile of Memorial Christian Church
Past - Present - Future
Memorial Christian Church was organized in September of 1946. The church grew steadily in the post-World War II years. The building was a military chapel and was purchased from the government in the Spring of 1947. Moving the chapel from the Army Air Base near Ephrata was undertaken by members and community volunteers. It was set upon a foundation at the top of the Division Street hill and remains there today. In 1947 the "neighborhood" around this location was primarily sagebrush, leaving the building highly visible from the downtown area. Members believed the location could be likened to the biblical reference from Matthew 5:14-15 which states, "You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid." During the 50-plus years since then, the church has ministered to countless numbers of people from this location. There is hope that in the future a new building will be built on the five acres purchased by the congregation on what is now the eastern edge of Ephrata. In the interim, the friendly and open congregation gives grateful thanks to God for the 50-plus years of ministry and prays for continued guidance and growth in the years ahead.
We are affiliated with:
the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
&
the Northwest Regional Christian Church.
