8-9am -- BIOGRAPHY® - The Perdue Family.
As a railway express agent, Arthur W. Perdue noticed
that the poultry men loading their eggs and chickens
onto the train seemed to be financially successful. In
1917 Arthur decided he was going to make poultry his
business as well, and a Chicken Empire was born. From
a backyard table-egg business that supported one
family in the 1920s, Perdue has now grown into a
multi-billion dollar business providing poultry and
agricultural products on five continents. Known for
their commitment to excellence, three generations of
Perdues have guided this company through continued
growth and change while holding on to the values
inherited from it's founder, "Mr. Arthur." Perdue
Farms is still a privately owned company today.

famous for racially provocative and envelope-pushing
comedy.

7-8pm -- Hooked: Illegal Drugs and How They Got That
Way - Marijuana.
In a series investigating the history of drug use, we
begin our trip tracing the rise of marijuana and
synthetic amphetamines. Marijuana, from the Indian
hemp plant, has been used worldwide as a source of
rope, cloth, and paper; its medicinal qualities were
first documented 4,000 years ago in China. But it's
best known as the drug of choice of the 1960s. During
WWII, US troops were given an estimated 200 million
amphetamines to fight drowsiness and battle fatigue,
and they're still used to fight depression.

8-9pm -- Hooked: Illegal Drugs and How They Got That
Way - Cocaine.
Derived from South America's coca leaf, cocaine was
touted as a cure-all in the late 19th-century and was
the secret ingredient in many medicines and elixirs
such as Coca-Cola. But cocaine's allure quickly
diminished as racism entered the picture--the concept
of the "cocaine-crazed Negro" even led police to
strengthen the caliber of their guns from .32 to .38.
We'll see how, though it was outlawed in 1914, its
popularity soared in the 1980s and '90s and gave birth
to a deadlier form--crack.

9-10pm -- Hooked: Illegal Drugs and How They Got That
Way - Opium, Morphine and Heroin
An examination of the history of the poppy plant and
three of its deadliest derivatives. In ancient times,
the poppy was considered divine, but in the 19th and
20th centuries, its addicting and lethal qualities
caused unprecedented national outrage, social
upheaval, and even sparked two wars. Used by the upper
classes as patent medicines, heroin became the bane of
society when the working class began to use it. In
1914, Federal law banned heroin and opium, and
restricted morphine to medicinal use.

10-11pm -- Hooked: Illegal Drugs and How They Got That
Way - LSD, Ecstasy and the Raves.
How did the psychedelic drugs LSD and Ecstasy journey
from a scientific discovery to a popular recreation to
banned drugs? Mental health professionals once
believed that LSD could treat schizophrenia or
alcoholism. Meanwhile, Ecstasy, the "penicillin for
the soul", was used in marriage counseling. Now,
continuing the cycle of the hallucinogen, some of the
latest derivatives in this category of drugs, the
"rave" drugs such as GHB and Ketamine, are about to be
banned.

opportunity to bring a fugitive to justice. The next
morning, on what should be the most joyful day of Dog
and Beth's life together, tragedy strikes. Dog learns
that his eldest daughter, Barbara, has been killed in
a horrific car accident hours earlier. Dog is
bereft--family means everything to him. He and Beth
talk to their preacher about whether or not to go on
with the wedding. So, in the face of death, Dog and
Beth decide they must choose life. The day is marked

10-11pm -- AMERICAN JUSTICE® - The Monster Inside
On November 13th, 1998, the San Luis Obispo police
received numerous calls about a large pool of blood on
a local bridge. A few days later, Rachel Newhouse, a
20-year-old junior at a local college, was declared
missing. While DNA tests revealed that the blood on
the bridge was probably Rachel’s, there were no
witnesses or other clues linking the two events to an
actual suspect. When another girl went missing, and
signs of abduction were evident in her apartment,
parole officer David Zarragoza became suspicious about
possible involvement of one of his parolees, Rex Allen
Krebs, who had attacked and raped women in their homes
11 years earlier. After bringing him in for
questioning, police learned that Krebs had sought
counseling for his violent sexual tendencies while in
prison, but had not qualified for the program. They
also found evidence linking Krebs to the two attacks.
Allen voluntarily confessed to the DA. Despite his
concerted efforts to get counseling and evident
remorse, Allen was sentenced to death. Was the prison
system partially to blame for these heinous crimes?
You be the judge.

rousing speech to an audience of enthusiastic
grade-schoolers, Dog catches up with an old friend,
Sheriff Tommy Cayetano, to talk business. Dog's got a
tough fugitive to catch and Tommy is happy to lend a

some clues for the hunt, but the information is
sketchy. With day turning to night, Dog approaches the
alleged victim and ex-girlfriend, Natasha, for
assistance. She is happy to help and agrees to set up
a meeting with him where Dog could trap him. But just

they mix in dress and tuxedo fittings, marriage

opportunity to bring a fugitive to justice. The next
morning, on what should be the most joyful day of Dog
and Beth's life together, tragedy strikes. Dog learns
that his eldest daughter, Barbara, has been killed in
a horrific car accident hours earlier. Dog is
bereft--family means everything to him. He and Beth
talk to their preacher about whether or not to go on
with the wedding. So, in the face of death, Dog and
Beth decide they must choose life. The day is marked

8-9pm -- AMERICAN JUSTICE® - Mail Order Murder
It was an unconventional love story, at best. Russian
teenager Anastasia Solovieva had the looks of a model,
a vivacious personality and a thirst for education and
adventure. Through a mail order bride catalog, she was
courted in late 1997 by Indle Gifford King, Jr., a
middle-aged man in Seattle with crumbling finances and
a failed marriage. Within months, Anastasia left her
parents in Kyrgyzstan for what she hoped would be a
bright new future in America. However, Indle’s and
Anastasia’s union would be short-lived, fraught with
deception, charges of spousal abuse, adultery – and
murder. AMERICAN JUSTICE: MAIL ORDER MURDER reports
that in 2000, Daniel Larson, a convicted child
molester, led police to Anastasia’s body in a shallow
grave. Larson implicated both himself and Indle King
in the crime. King’s motive, according to Larson, was
that he had been fleeced by his first Russian wife,
and he was determined not to let the second one do the
same. At his trial, Indle King became the state’s best
witness against himself through his contradictory
testimony. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to
the maximum in Washington state – just under 29 years.

the penal system to perform one of its most vital
functions? Take a closer look at rehabilitation
programs in the modern penal system, with a probing
analysis of recidivism, prison and prisoner reform.
