Domestic Relations, Professional Responsibility, Corporations (including export control and basic securities rules), and Intellectual Properties (Copyrights, Patents, and Trademarks).

Published one (31 Flavours {spelled correctly})anyway, made a profit from the advertising, won 5 Sigma Delta Chi (Now The Society of Professional Journalists) awards, and established new school and school district standard for self-sufficiently (i.e. publications expected to fund at least 50% of expenses from advertising) which is being followed to this day.

From posting to various newsgroups: *.personal
for A Mutual FriendTM of Seattle, a unique introductions service.
Do you want to ask out
a specific co-worker (for a date)
but your company has
an anti-fraternization or anti-nepotism policy?
Are you basically a shy person,
from a more traditional background,
unskilled at flirting,
at your first job (and don't want to lose it if you make a wrong guess),
or new at being single
after a long time involved with someone else
(and your self-esteem needs a little time to repair)?
Feel that because of your of your busy
personal life, family, and/or work requirements or commitments,
that you can't meet potential mates
outside of the work world?
Afraid of losing face
if your interest says "no" to your request,
have them make a charge of sexual harassment
(most men's worst fears) and derailing your career, or
having everyone at your company
know about your "personal" business.
Or what if your interest is the same gender and
you don't want to be "out", yet?
Don't want to go to a local singles group,
(stand around like bleating sheep
while eyeing each other waringly,
wondering who's really the wolf/wolverine),
or
pay Gross Expectations (Great Expectations), or
your local MisMatchMaker (Matchmaker in your city name)
a huge fee to meet someone you might already know?
(One of our employees got his lovely ex-wife on a list once).
We can improve your odds.
"The Possible Story of You and A Mutual FriendTM
Life would be pretty cool if it was like the movies:
a hero/heroine, a romantic interest, some car chases
and a lot of hot-and-heavy love scenes.
However in the real world,
it's not always that easy to connect
with your leading man or lady.
That's where we come in.
A Mutual FriendTM provides two different ways
for you to approach the person you've been admiring
with the level of confidentiality you want.
Two ways to ride off into the sunset:
A Mutual FriendTM Secret Admirer
We'll send a letter letting him/her know
SOMEONE is interested (your identity is safe).
If he/she responds saying that they are also interested
(in you, of course),
then we'll let you both know.
(Your love interest, of course, responds free of charge.)
Cost: $9.95 or the price of a decent lunch for two
on a Entertainment coupon >;-{)
A Mutual FriendTM Classic
You register an Expression of Interest with them,
(think of it as practicing to register for the real thing at The Bon Marché)
and they won't tell anyone,
including the object of your desire.
Hint: leave them a copy of this posting
or call or e-mail us for one of their brochures.
And if that object of your desire contacts them to tell them
about the same feelings for you,
we will tell you both.
Cost: $4.95 or the price of breakfast at McDonalds.
Make it Happen.
Why be a supporting character
(and never get an Oscar/Oscarette to hold)
when you can star in your own romantic feature?
Throw out the old script now and
chose the option above that suits you.
Or you can do nothing and
sit at home with your companion animal,
read a boring newspaper,
talk to yourself (or your biological creator(s) or offspring),
eat an unsatisfying TV dinner,
play on the computer,
and wonder why your life
doesn't happen they way you want it to happen
just like in the movies.
Either way, it's your life.
Choose.

Letter to Unsuccessful Applicants Telling Them Why They Were Turned Down
and Suggesting Alternatives While Marketing the Company's Products
November 2, 1997
Jenny Wango (not a real person)
3956 Tenth Ave. NE., #204
Seattle, WA 98105
Dear Ms.Wango:
Thank you for applying for our half-time administrative assistant position with general office skills including MS Office, Access, and Internet located in the Pioneer Square area of Seattle. The position was advertised in the Seattle Times and Seattle Weekly/Eastside Week.
While we were impressed with your knowledge of PageMaker and advertising copy background, Ms. Wango, we regret that the position has been filled by someone who provided both an e-mail* and a personal web page address** on their cover letter and resume along with demonstrated advanced skills in Windows 95 (created shortcuts), Word and Access (linked files together for mail merge and managed a previous database), and was familiar with Eudora, our e-mail program. The rate of compensation will be a contract for 120 days at $12.00 an hour for five days a week with the workday being 4 hours a day. An additional up to $100 will be paid for actual medical insurance expenses and one day each a month will be provided for vacation and sick leave.
A Mutual FriendTM is a Seattle-based nationwide service that makes it easy to find out if there is a mutual attraction between two people. Unlike introduction services, which match strangers according to outside factors, A Mutual FriendTM helps you determine if someone you already know is interested in you at work, school, your religious or social environments, or elsewhere. It is excellent for shy folks, persons for whom directly asking someone out for a date is foreign to them due to their age, generation, gender, or family upbringing or culture, and newly single persons (after a long-term relationship has ended). We enclose two copies of our brochure for your use.
Sincerely yours,
Keith Gormèzano
Office Manager

About the Design of This Site
All my web pages have the following in common:
- A master style sheet is used for all pages. The title on each page begins with a description of what each page is about (About the Design of This Site). Meta names (content and description, content and keywords) are used on the home page and selected pages to facilitate indexing by search engines.
- The first line of the header or title usually begins with my name and a more complete description of the page contents. Font size of this first line is +2 greater than that of the base font (3, normal, 12 point). The next line is only increased +1. Tables with a specified width and alignment are used on most pages.
- The amount of time spent waiting for a page to load is minimalized. All files are designed to load using a 14.4 modem in under 30 seconds.
- I use <H4>, <font size=4>, or <font size=+1> (the base font is 3) in a serif type face (a type face with little feet and extensions) such as Times New Roman or Times (the words "About the Design of This Site" in the title above are an example of this typeface :
- For visually impaired and older persons;
- Be easier on the eyes for people who sit at a terminal much of the day; and
- Allow more than one person to read it at a terminal.
- Use tables (with width set for 75-80%, alignment=center, and cellpadding set for 25) rather than frames to allow for users of America Off Line, Lynx (a free text only browser), and visually impaired users of OCR software to easily "read" the text.
- All images (see photos) are described in complete detail, not just a brief description for the same reason. Graphics are also minimalized by limiting them to less than 3 per page and under 50K per image by using small gif or compressed jpeg files as a a background.
- Pages are colored differently depending on where you are located in the directory.
- First level pages (home and all pages listed on the main or home page) use a marbled or rough texture or some unique format such as the spiral bound notebook paper in the this list.
- Second level pages use a light colored background.
If I change the color of the text, I try to make it a higher contrast than black text on white background to facilitate reading.
- Third level and beyond pages use a combination background. This makes it easier for the reader to gauge where they are (located) in the (table of contents, so to speak) of the web page.
- I deliberately insert extra paragraphs (e.g <P>)
- Anytime a paragraph is more than 5 lines;
- To make the text more readible; and
- Create more white space for better design.
- Include a border around images of at least a 1/4" or 36 pixels (144 pixels to an inch, 72 to a half inch, 36 to a quarter inch).
- Try not to go more than 3 levels of navigation (movement up or down) within the web site.
- Include a text only navigation area at the bottom of each page so users can jump to any of the sub main documents listed on the home page.
For those of you who want further information about web page design, I recommend the following:
- Hot Monkey: Great Place to Learn About Basic Web Design as I also share their philosophy.
