Go

Host: Kevin O'Connell
Announcer: Johnny Gilbert

PREMISE: Two teams play "Instant Reaction" (see CHAIN REACTION '80) for a shot at $10,000 in cash.

RULES: Each team consists of five players (four contestants and a celebrity captain that stays on the show for the whole week. In each round, on team picks a packet of words, the top or bottom row. The first team comes downstage to the desk to play the game. Four players form the giving line, and one player guesses the words.

In our example, host Kevin says "Go!", the clock starts, and a word is shown on the TV screens in front of Giver 1 and Giver 2. Their task is to get the guesser to say the word or phrase on the screens as fast as possible, as in Pyramid. The catch is that the two clue givers must form a question one word at a time. Giver 1 starts, giver 2 adds a word, and they go back and forth until one or both players rings a bell to end the question and prompt a guess from the guesser. A sample play might work like this:

"How-long-is-sixty-minutes-(ding)"
The player must guess "An hour" to move down the line. If the guesser is wrong, offers no guess, or the givers do not come up with a valid question, they forfeit the word, and another is brought up. After each word guessed, the guesser moves down the line, or back toward the beginning, until five words are guessed properly. At this point, the timer stops. The other team must play the game, and get five words in a faster time to score the points, otherwise the first team gets the points.

SCORING: The team that gets five words faster wins the points available for that round. Round one has 250 points on offer. Round two has 500 points, round three has 750, and the fourth round has 1250, and the team that wins that round will win the game, since 1,500 points sends that team to the bonus round. (Unless one team won the first three rounds, but that comes later.

BONUS GAME: The bonus game is played similarly to the front game, where the team can win $10,000 for giving seven correct answers in 60 seconds.

Then, three players, then two, then one, and then two, three and four on the last. DOUBLE JACKPOT: If one team shuts out the other in the main game, they play the Double Jackpot Round (two bonus games) for a potential $20,000. This feat has been accomplished at least once.

RETURNING CHAMPIONS: Each team plays for five shows. The teams consist of four civilians and a celebrity.

Home Play: No box game, but you could use Pyramid cards for word ideas.
Travis' Review: Bob Stewart gets an A for effort for getting this one off the ground. The game is pretty good, but the colors clash a bit and the turning team color identifier usually went the wrong way. Cool theme, though!

Revival: I would propose the following: The teams consist of two celebrities and a contestant, and each guesses for one round, lasting a minute each. Each correct answer in that time scores a point. The final round is worth two points per answer, and the team chooses their lineup. Most points wins the game.

The bonus round would be played like before, with the four celebrities. Seven right answers for $10,000. Returning champions for up to five days.
