Card Sharks underwent a radical format change for its 13 week syndicated run in 2001.

Two players competed in each of the first two rounds. The winner of a coin toss got to see the first card in a string of seven, and got to play or pass control. Whoever played had to call whether the next card would be higher or lower. A right call kept control, a bad call passed it to the opponent. Each player also got two "Clip Chips" to start the game. A player used one to attempt to change the card. A video clip was shown, and the player had two choices as to what would happen. A correct prediction meant the card was changed, a wrong call kept that card. When the game got to the seventh card, the player won on a correct call, and lost on a bad one. $500 was won for each win, and a tie-breaker with three cards was played at 1-1.

The two players who won $1,000 moved on to the "Big Deal". The game was as before, but whoever won that hand won $1,100 and moved on to the Money Cards. If the players had kept any Chip Clips from the first rounds, they could use them in this round as well.

The winner took the $2,100 to the Money Cards. The cards were dealt in three rows, of three, two and one card at the top. The rules from the 1986 version were in effect. $700 was added to the bank at each new row, and the top possible prize was $51,800.
