Round 14
[Wei Ping] Standing outside the hatch of the Lightwing, she is on her comm trying to raise Mattac.
[Mattac] "Yeah, Mattac here," comes the nasal voice of the L4's chief engineer. "Where are you, Colter? What's up?"
[Wei Ping] "I need you to check in on the Captain and make sure that his friend is off the ship before 8."
[Mattac] "Hey, I'll do what I can but it's really your problem. I just make sure the ship works -- the crew can do whatever the hell they want."
[Wei Ping] "If you can't take care of the problem in time, comm me. This is important, Mattac. Don't get caught up and forget... promise me you'll remember."
[Mattac] There is a pause. Wei Ping knows that Mattac is a person who doesn't give promises easily. "All right, Colter," he says. "I'll make sure that the Captain's piece of… equipment is removed from the ship in time. Mattac out."
[Wei Ping]She breathes a sigh of relief. "Thanks, I owe you one." She knows that that is one problem she doesn't have to think about this morning. Now to the second problem. Hope John (Bif) Ford doesn't think the supply list too trivial to have brought her over here.
[Bif] Bif is not pleased to see Wei Ping. He scowls and then tries to look neutral. "You are an hour early, is there a problem with the 28E?" He continues to walk out of the Lightwing in the direction of the Cannon while looking at Wei Ping.
[Wei Ping] She is startled
by John Ford speaking, as she did not hear him approach behind her. She
turns quickly trying to slow her racing heartbeat and appear calm. She
then realizes that he has walked past her and she is now in the role of
puppy dog following on his heels, trying to carry on a conversation from
the rear. So much for her desire to appear efficient.
She moves
up beside Bif and extends the clipboard. Trying to keep her voice level
and professional sounding she says, "There was some issues with the supplying
of the ship that I thought you should be informed about before the meeting
at the shipyards this morning. As you can see from these figures, the shipyards
has laid in supplies that barely meet the minimum standards. I think you
could hold them to adding more supplies to the ship." She will wait for
his response.
[Bif] Bif pauses in his walk toward the cab. He takes the clipboard and glances quickly at it. He looks down at Wei Ping. "The shipyard is trying to shortchange us huh…" He frowns, and looks up distractedly. "I will consult the contract we have with them to see if we have any legal room to maneuver." "Damn, this day just couldn't get much better." Bif suddenly starts walking quickly towards the cab again. "I need to get this um..."item" stored in the Lightwing before I can deal with that problem though."
[Wei Ping] "May I be of any further assistance, sir? Or do I have your permission to return to the ship?" She does not give any special weight to either question. It appears that things have settled down to a somewhat normal routine in the hangar. She wouldn't mind hanging around to see what else might happen here but there are things back at the transport that need to be attended to before the inspection.
[Bif] Bif glances over at Wei Ping "I am sure you have things to do on board the L4 before I come over this morning. I will keep the list of provisions so I can figure out how much more supplies to request. Thank you for your help...(Bif looks down at the tarmac for a second before looking Wei Ping in the eye) I have complete faith in your discretion regarding this morning's events." Bif smiles, takes the list off the clipboard (electronically or physically depending upon medium) and hands the clipboard back to Wei Ping.
[Wei Ping] Taking the clipboard from John Ford, she nods and heads to the hangar door. After leaving the hangar she will check around the area outside briefly to see if the disturbance has attracted any undue attention. If nothing appears amiss she will continue back to the L4. There are a couple of matters there to attend to after all. She wonders if Mattac has been able to take care of the assignment yet.
[GM] Blackhawk feels the
strength of her link with Are, the emotional bond there strengthening her
sense of his presence. She carries a strong thread to Aeon as well,
confident that should anything change in their conditions she will be aware
of it.
She steps
outside the Lightwing to see Wei Ping following Bif toward the cab and
trailer. Near the trailer, DT confers with Sha as he flexes his bionic
arm.
[Bif] Bif glances over to the part of the hanger where DT was working and sees that she seems to be finished helping the Barabel. Bif raises his voice. "DT, Lets get this unloaded before your cab meter rolls back over to 0 and you have to get your cards out again." Bif smiles briefly and starts to do whatever is necessary to get the cannon loaded in the Lightwing.
[DT] The rumpled tech
looks up as John Ford calls out to her. "Yep, Ok." She smiles to
Sha and then saunters over to where Jymmig waits.
"Guess
we dump the prize here, bud." She leans in the cabin window. "Do
me favor, huh? Can you back this thing a little closer to that rear
cargo hatch? I don' want Sha strainin' hisself trying to lift right
now."
DT cocks
a casual thumb toward the poor injured Barabel warrior with a wry grin.
[GM] Jymmig fires up the repulsors in the cab. "Yeah sure," he says. "Whatever will get me out of here… I mean, whatever you say, I hear ya." The trailer jerks alarmingly, but the cabbie eases it under the Lightwing with a surprisingly deft hand.
[Sha] Moving to the cargo bay to get a lift (GM - fork lift, grav lift, etc. whatever is normally used for loading cargo) he glances at DT. "While enjoy your company I do, I'm not so fond that I'd damage my arm again to spend more of this relaxing morning with you. I will follow your instructions, doctor." With a grin and slight bow, he disappears into the cargo bay sure he will hear her response.
[DT] "Hah!" She calls after the Barabel. "Some people got no respect for a girl armed with a scapel." She grins and mutters "Big lizard" fondly under her breath.
[ARE] Are slowly rises from his resting place. He senses for Joan (can already feel her, faintly) and Biff. Are will pause a moment to steady himself, take a deep breath and calm meditate. After 2 minutes, he will attempt to call to Joan and Biff. (If no response, he will search for Joan then Biff, using the Force, if responses, he will go to whomever needs him or is closer. In the advent of no info will move to go outside). (One thing in the back of Are's mind-where are we and who else is here.)
[Joan] Blackhawk climbs
slowly down out of the Lightwing to stand near the still sparking halves
of the BTY unit. Her eyes thaw briefly and flicker of sympathy dashes
across her face and is quickly gone.
As she
is bending over to start picking up the pieces, Are's touch brushes her
mind. She stops briefly and sends back warm assurances to her mate.
"Safe as ever" ironically -- "rest" gently. She looks up to see Bif
coming toward the hatch, wearing a similar distracted expression to her
own.
She stands,
"John, choose a course. I can take care of the Lightwing -- crew
and vessel." A one sided smile to take the sting out of the words.
[Bif] Bif looks over at Joan - "You want to take over loading this cargo??" He has a surprised look on his face. His glance falls on the fallen droid Betty just past Joan and his face falls. He looks away quickly but not before Joan can see the pain Betty's condition causes him. He gives a big sigh and looks back at Joan.
[Joan] She nods with
a little small at Bif's surprise, and her voice holds an almost human note
of comfort. "I will get the cargo loaded. And if ... that woman
is all
she says, she will be able
to aid Betty."
Joan
toggles the exterior controls on the cargo hatch briskly. The cargo
bay door lowers forming a small ramp up into the equally small cargo hold
that Sha, DT and Viper shared just the previous day.
[DT] The tech whistles
as she looks at the hold. "Damn! Just as small as I 'membered
it. This is gonna be tight."
She hops
up onto the trailer and begins unfastening the ties holding the turbo cannon
in place.
[Joan] The pilot looks
over to the cannon and the tech. "If you don't mind...." words
fail her again. Ms. doesn't seem right, and Joan can't bring herself
to speak DT's name.
"Sha
and I will load the cargo. Would you see to our fallen companion?"
[DT] The tech meets
Joan's eyes. DT's distaste is equally evident. "Yeah, sure, whatever."
She hops down from the trailer and crosses the tarmac to where Betty lays.
"Too
many goddamn chiefs and not enough Indians." DT mutters under her
breath as she begins pulling out tools.
