SQUAD MACHINEGUNS

MG 34:

MG34 "Gas Gun"

As Washington is not a Class III state none of our individual members own full automatic weapons. However, our unit Weapons Specialist has made a one man portable MG34 "GAS GUN" for the squad machine gun. This is built on a BATF approved nongun and can not fire live ammo or blanks, but produces realistic sound and flash by the electronic igniton of a propane/oxygen mixture in a small combustion chamber. This walk-and-shoot unit weighs 25 lbs. with all electronics built into the drum. The backpack weighs 18 lbs. and contains the propane and oxygen tanks and a 12 volt gel cell battery. We form the squad around this, and it makes us a formidable unit in the field.

MG 42:

MG42 "Gas Gun"

We have recently had the good fortune to add a MG42 Gas Gun to our unit arsenal. Built on a dummy gun purchased by one of our members and out-fitted with a newly developed Steve Smith "fast" electronic firing board this baby is capable of firing at an authentic 18 rounds per second. Fielded for the first time during our NWHA 2001 Italian Event the distinctive sound of this fast firing gun greatly added to the overall ambiance, functioned flawlessly and tallied up quite a few casualties on the Allied side.

Here is an mpg video of a recent test, the mpg format did not capture all of the muzzle flashes that were seen in the original video, they were the same duration as the sound. The quality of the audio is also not representative of the actual sound produced by this gun, it is so loud it "pegged" out the microphone and recorder.
