Slayers

Lina pic

This is a slapstick comedy taking place in a fantasy world. The main character is Lina Inverse, the young, petite and powerful, and rather flat chested, sorceress. During the first few arcs of the show, she travels with the blond, handsome, long-haired knight Gourry -- who doesn't have much in the way of intelligence, and for the next few story arcs she travels with Nagga, the black-haired, tall, size DDD chested sorceress who seems to have all the qualities that Lina doesn't have. My only reservations is: beware Nagga's cackle. It'll annoy you. A lot.

So, on to the review. I personally don't like this series because #1: the different story arcs get very confusing, #2: there doesn't really seem to be much of a story at all, just a confusing bunch of characters. OK, fine, so I haven't watched the entire series yet, but the first few episodes certainly seemed to be going nowhere. But then, most of my friends like the show, although I have no clue why. Anyways, if you're having a really relaxed day and don't want to watch anything too violent or emotional, and if you want to get a few laughs, then maybe you should try watching this show.

Update 12/17/99 -- OK, now I *have* watched the entire Slayers Next series, and Mr. Dragon-Cuisine-you-know-who-you-are has been nagging at me to change my review under fear of death by Lina's Ragna Blade. *glares daggers at Mr. Dragon-Cuisine* Unfortunately, my opinion of the series still hasn't changed, except that the last few episodes of Slayers next is pretty cool -- much better than the rest of the series, at least. So now you have my word -- and yes, I think I've seen enough of the series so that I can make a fairly accurate judgement.

Here's Mr. Dragon Cuisine's reviews:
What can I say! Slayers is Slayers is Slayers! It's just completely funny with a great story line to boot. You'll be laughing till your stomach hurt and your throat go dry! Okay here's the recap, in case you want to know it, and DON'T LISTEN TO WHAT CLAIRE SAYS! SHE'S EVIL!!! Lina Inverse is a magic using genius, her sidekick is the idiot swordsman Gourry, and the overly serious wannabe heartless magic using golem Zelgadiss, and the justice-fanatic crazy girl Amelia and you've got the Slayers team. Of course don't forget the supporting cast like the pacifist fater of Amelia, Prince Phil, and you'll be entertained for days! *The TV series is the best though its 26 episodes long, plus another 26 from Next* Oh yeah, you'll also never see the same joke twice, so cheers for Slayers!

Fun Facts:
Gourry dresses in drag every 17th episode.
Nagga from the OAV series is hinted as Amelia's long lost sister.
Gourry is half-elf half-human.
What Lina is afraid of most is her sister Luna.
Look for the dolls! *they're out there!*
Cool songs!

Sexual Content: none

Nudity: none

Story: It's very well constructed, every episode has a part in the BIG PICTURE!!!

Comedy: One word... LAUGH... and don't stop laughing until the end, and keep going if you want to.

Violence: Only when Lina smashes Gourry over the head and stuff like that.

Genre: Fantasy, comedy, adventure

Rating: 10/10

End of Mr. Dragon Cuisine's review.
