Rurouni Kenshin

Kenshin, Kaoru, Sanosuke, and Yakiko
Rurouni Kenshin, or "Wandering Kenshin," is about a Meiji-era ex-assasin called Kenshin. He killed many people in the past, and he has sworn to never kill again. He always carries a reverse blade that is meant to attack but not to kill. In the beginning of the series, Kenshin meets a girl called Kaoru and stays at her dojo. Staying with them are Kaoru's student Yakiko, and another fighter called Sanosuke.

Although the manga is currently being serialized in a boys' magazine in Japan, I still consider it a Shojo series, since I only know girls who are interested in this series. Of course, I may be wrong, so please don't flame me!

I really liked the first few episodes of this series because of the light-hearted tone, but from episode 29 onwards, things got a lot more serious. But then, I wouldn't have minded the seriousness if there weren't just so damn many episodes full of fighting with very little actual story to it. However, the later parts of the manga as well as the OAV's goes a bit into Kenshin's past and his relationship with Kaoru. Still, I'd like this series a lot better if the fighting scenes were shorter.

Currently, ADV is set to release the Kenshin movies and OAV's while Media Blasters has the rights to the TV series. Sony is also looking into the option of releasing the series to US television.
