Agility Class Information

Our new set of classes is listed below, and will start on July 1, 2009!

The classes below are for current students or those with prior training. If you are not sure if your dog qualifies for one of the classes listed, please email Diana.

Agility Run Throughs! The Paws-Abilities agility equipment will be available for experienced dogs and handlers to rent! Run throughs are open for sign-ups for July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and Aug. 5th, 2009. The equipment will be available from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm to practice contacts, and other skills in a matted, indoor location. Price is $5 per dog. There will be no supervision during this time - handlers and dogs will work on their own, and agree to share space with others. Contact Diana to reserve your spot now or for more information. Please read our Run Through Guidelines as well. Hope to see you there!

CeCe flies into the tunnel!
Agility is a fun sport for both people and dogs. Dogs learn how to safely negotiate various obstacles like tunnels, jumps, A-Frame, dog walk, teeter, weave poles, tire, table and the closed chute. Once dogs have learned the obstacles, and the handlers have learned how to help their dogs negotiate them, some teams choose to particpate in agility trials. At each trial, the judge brings a new course. The handlers walk the course in advance, and plan how to stear their dogs through the course successfully. The dogs don't see the course before they step onto the line to compete. Agility is a fun and exciting sport, and Paws-Abilities is pleased to bring you classes to teach you and your dogs the basics of agility.

Dogs must be 8 months or older to participate in agility training at Paws-Abilities. Currently, we are offering basic introduction to agility classes, plus some continuing classes for those that enjoy working with their dogs. We hope you and your dog will be able to join us for an introduction to this exciting sport!

Your instructor for agility is Diana Hefti. Diana has been teaching obedience classes since 1983, and has been having a blast with agility since 2002. She owns Australian shepherds, and has been successfully competing with them in agility, conformation and Rally. Both of her agility dogs are at the Excellent level in AKC and Elite levels for NADAC and ASCA. Diana believes in positive training to encourage happy dogs that are well-adjusted members of the family. For more information on Diana's training experience and philosophy, see her page on training. You can find more information on her dogs at Glen Ey Aussies.

Advanced Agility is for dogs that are proficient on all obstacles (except weave poles), and that are nearly ready to trial, or have begun trialing. We will also talk more about the different agility organizations and preparing to trial our dogs.
