Cottage cheese, sour cream, and other dairy products that come in plastic tubs, will stay fresher longer if you store them upside down in the refrigerator.

Apply a cloth soaked in cola to a rusted bolt or screw to help remove rust and loosen bolt.

Add a can of cola to the wash load when washing a load of grease soiled clothing. The cola will help loosen the soil.

Cola applied to the chrome bumper of your car and then scrubbed with crumpled up aluminum foil will help get rid of rust spots.

If you move into a new home where the previous owners were smokers, putting mint flavored coffee beans in open dishes will remove the smoke odor from closets.

To help remove ink stains from clothing, saturate ink stain with hair spray and then wash as usual.

Cascade dishwasher powder added to the wash load will help remove grass and mud stains from clothing.

If you have access to fresh mint, place it around windows and doors to keep away the ants.

If an egg breaks on the floor, sprinkle it generously with salt, let dry, and you will then be able to just sweep it up.

Lemons or carrots kept in jars of water will stay fresh indefinately.

To make your tires and wheels look like new, spray them with oven cleaner, wash off with soap and water, then rinse with water.

Putting a birth control pill in the soil of your houseplants every 2-3 months will make them grow and bloom like crazy.

Goop hand cleaner (goop is the brand name) is great for removing stains from fabric also.

If water problems leave the inside of your dishwasher or washing machine dingy, put some Tang instant drink crystals into them and run them through a normal cycle.

To clean the glass door on the inside of your oven,sprinkle some baking soda on a wet rag, wipe down glass and then rinse. The baking soda will remove greasy stains.

To remove scuff marks from tile floors, put a little alcohol or fingernail polish remover on a rag and rub marks gently.

After chopping onions, wet your hands and sprinkle on some salt, rub hands well and then rinse in cold water to remove onion smell.

Pour club soda on carpet stains, rub gently, then blot up.

Hydrogen peroxide will remove blood stains from clothing. Pour directly on stain, rub gently, rinse in cold water.

For water rings on furniture, apply a little mayonaise, rub gently for several minutes, then wipe off and buff.

After cleaning your stove top and range hood, apply a thin film of car wax to make furture cleanings easier.  

Clean your bathroom mirror with a bit of shaving cream to keep them fog free.

For pet "accident" stains on carpet, pour some white vinegar on area to remove odor.

For items that are hard to clean because of narrow openings like some vases, fill item half full of hot water and drop in denture cleaning or alkezer tablet.

Pour the contents of a 1000 IU vitamim E capsule into a newly opened container of cooking oil to keep the oil fresh longer with no rancid smell.

If you need to re-open an envelope that you've already sealed, place it in the microwave for a few seconds to loosen the glue.

To clean the glass doors of your fireplace, use oven cleaner.

Keep a bag of kitty litter in the trunk of your car in winter time to use as traction for slippery weather. Just throw some under each tire.

To prevent packaged cheese (block or shredded) from molding before you finish it all, place a tablespoon of sugar inside the package.

To clean copper bottom pots, sprinkle on some salt and then rub with a lemon slice.

Put moth balls in the garden to keep out animals.

To get rid of slugs, put a cup of beer at ground level.

To remove rust stains from white clothing, rub the stain with some salt and lemon juice and then place garment in the sun.

To unclog a drain pour 1 cup of baking soda followed by one cup of white vinegar down the drain. After fizzing stops run hot water through drain.

To tell the difference between raw and boiled eggs, place egg on flat surface and spin. Boiled eggs will spin and raw eggs will wobble.

Repel mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.

Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a used sheet of Bounce.

Freshen the air in your home. Place an individual sheet of Bounce in a drawer or hang one in the closet.

TIPS FOR A LIFETIME

1). Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.

2). Use a meat baster to "squeeze" your pancake batter onto the hot griddle - perfect shaped pancakes every time.

3). To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.

4). To prevent egg shells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before hard-boiling.

5). Run your hands under cold water before pressing Rice Krispies treats in the pan-the marshmallow won't stick to your fingers.

6). To get the most juice out of fresh lemons, bring them to room temperature and roll them under your palm against the kitchen counter before squeezing.

7). To easily remove burnt-on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stove-top - skillet will be much easier to clean.

8). Spray your Tupperware with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato-based sauces - no more stains.

9). When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead - no white mess on the outside of the cake.

10). If you accidentally over-salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato - it absorbs the excess salt for an instant "fix me up".

11). Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator - it will keep for weeks.

The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous china. Clean a vase - to remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets. Polish jewelry - drop two Alka-Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes. Clean a thermos bottle - fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka-Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary). Unclog a drain - clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka-Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar Wait a few minutes, then run the hot water.

25). If your VCR has a year setting on it, which most do, you will not be able to use the programmed recording feature after 12/31/99. Don't throw it away. Instead, set it for the year 1972 as the days are the same as the year 2000. The manufacturers won't tell you. They want you to buy a new Y2K VCR.
