The BMCofWA Code of Ethics



The betterment and well-being of the Bullmastiff should be the primary consideration of every member of the Club and is a condition of membership.

Breeding shall be done only for the purpose of improving the breed and when planning Bullmastiff matings, every effort must be made to control or, if possible, eliminate faults, especially if such faults are hereditary.

Members shall ensure that all dogs under their control are properly housed, fed, exercised and will receive proper veterinary attention, if and when required.

Members shall not permit any pure-bred dog to be mated under 20 months and not over 6 years of age and shall not mate her more than twice in three consecutive seasons. Owners of stud dogs shall not allow bitches over or under age to be mated by their dogs. These parameters will be subject to written veterinary opinion at that time. All breeding stock must be in fit physical condition at the time of mating.

Members will ensure that all breeding stock are clinically tested and certified free of infection and hip x-rayed and scored prior to a mating takes place.

Members shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed nor falsely advertise or mislead any person regarding the performance of any dog.

Members will not allow puppies to be removed from their environment before they are 8 weeks of age and puppies shall have been vaccinated and wormed prior to departure. Breeders should encourage new puppy buyers to join the Bullmastiff Club of W.A.

Dogs showing unprovoked aggression towards humans must not be bred from or shown under any circumstances.

All breeders/owners will act in a responsible manner and endeavour to help and advise the new owner with the well being of the Bullmastiff. In the event of an owner being unable to continue to keep the Bullmastiff, the breeder shall make every effort to help and find a new home for the dog.

Breeders shall give a comprehensive back-up service with every puppy they sell, i.e. if a puppy develops any hereditary disease or a congenital defect becomes apparent, breeders should be prepared to accept it back and refund full purchase price, replace it, or make other mutually acceptable agreement. In cases where the new owner wishes to keep the puppy despite
the defect, an amicable agreement must be reached between both parties, ensuring that the dog is de-registered.

Dogs shall not be allowed to roam at large and when away from home, shall be kept fully leashed, or under effective control at all times.

Breeders shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from them, clearly under-stand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal and that they have the time and facilities (ie adequate fences, sufficient room and proper shelter etc) to perform their obligations.

Breeders shall provide to all purchasers of their dogs, written details of all dietary and immunisation requirements and/or an appropriate publication relating to such requirements and responsible dog ownership.

Breeders shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers or directly or indirectly allow a dog to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind.

Good sportsmanship shall always be observed by members and disparaging remarks about fellow members or their stock should be strongly discouraged.

Owners shall ensure when selling or transferring a dog to another person, that documents as required by the CAWA Inc. will be provided to the purchaser or transferee where applicable.

AFFILIATION

This Club is affiliated with and is bound by the Constitution and Rules of the Canine Association of Western Australia (Inc) and accepts the Canine Association's basic Constitution for Affiliated Clubs. Additional Domestic Rules are subordinate to those of the Canine Association of Western Australia (Inc)



DOMESTIC RULES

1. Name of the Club is "BULLMASTIFF CLUB OF W.A."

2. The Club agrees to be bound by the Constitution and Rules of the Canine Association of Western Australia (Inc.) and accepts the Canine Association's basic Constitution for Affiliated Clubs

3. The committee shall consist of 4 Office Bearers, being President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer and a committee of no less than 4 and no more that 7. All must be financial members of the Bullmastiff Club of WA and the Canine Association of WA.

4. All Office Bearers and committee retire annually but may nominate for re-election at the Annual General Meeting.

5. At Annual General Meeting, nominations for vacant positions may be lodged from the floor.

6. In the event of a casual vacancy, the committee may co-opt a member to fill the vacancy until the expiration of that term of office.

7. The Annual General Meeting shall be held within 2 calendar months of the end of the financial year.

8. Notices of Motion must be in writing and in the hands of the Secretary no later than 21 days prior to the A.G.M.

9. The club's financial year will commence on the 1st July and continue through to the 30th June the fol lowing year.

Associate members shall have no voting rights.

10. There shall be four classes of membership being:-

(1) Ordinary Member (Single and double)
An Ordinary Member shall be the owner of a registered Bullmastiff. A single member is entitled to one vote, a double membership is entitled to 2 votes.
(2) Associate Member
An Associate Member shall be a person or organisation who has an interest in or an affiliation with the Bullmastiff Club of WA. Associate Members may be represented at General Meetings of the Association but are not entitled to vote.
(3) Life Member
A Life Member shall be a person or organisation who is considered to have contributed significantly to the Bullmastiff Club of WA and who is nominated by a Full Member of the Club. The granting of Life Membership shall be a 75% majority decision of the committee.

(4) Honorary Member
Honorary Members will be such persons as the Committee in its discretion
thinks fit to so appoint, these being persons who have consented in writing to becoming Members and who in the opinion of the Committee may be able to contribute and assist with the work and conduct of the business and interests of the Club. Honorary Members may be appointed for such period as the Committee thinks fit. The Committee may in its discretion from
time to time appoint any person as an Honorary Member. Honorary Members may be represented at meetings of the Association but are not entitled to vote.

The fees for Ordinary and Associate Membership shall be set at Annual
General Meting or Special General Meeting by the Members.

12. The committee shall have power to make By-Laws for the conduct of its business and the business of the club generally, provided that no such By-Law be repugnant to the objects of the club, or to alter any rule made by members at the A.G.M. or any other Special Meeting.

13. A member of the committee being absent from three consecutive meetings without an apology shall forfeit the position.

15. The club will annually conduct a Top Dog Point Score and a Top Puppy Point Score.

16. Any dog attaining Champion status during the course of the year will be presented with a Championship sash at the A.G.M.
