In the beginning of the play, Ms. Tesman rents her house to her nephew, George. He moves in with his new, somewhat snooty wife, Hedda. The couple had only just returned from their honeymoon. Hedda only marries Tesman because he is the only one who has proposed to her, and she is getting old. This results in a loveless marriage between the two. Of course, the status of he marriage affects her disposition. She is rude to everyone. She decides to end her life from fear of a scandal. The story ends after she shoots herself in the head.
