This sight was enough to make anyone weep.
Anyone except those I suppose who took a bat to Jesus's fingers.
His eyes, like most religious statues, are without iris or pupil,
so the water stains under his eyes convey his tears.
He's so brave,
this image of an all-loving savior.
He still opens his arms to the filth of Waterbury,
to the sins of his people,
to the children who stopped visiting after the vandals came.
