Welcome!

The Jugal Himal region lies to the north-east of the fascinating city of Kathmandu, but despite its proximity it remains wild and relatively untouched. The trek offers the rare opportunity to explore this remote area and experience the mix of cultures that the many local villages have to offer.

Itinerary

Day 1: Early evening flight from London Heathrow to Kathmandu.

Day 2: Mid-afternoon arrival in Kathmandu. Transfer to the Summit Hotel for a welcome dinner.

Day 3: After a trek briefing in the morning, the remainder of the day will be free to explore the fascintaing shrines, temples and market places of Kathmandu.

Day 4: After an early breakfast, we travel north along the Kathmandu valley on the only road leading to Tibet. The rich fields that flank the road soon give way to the steep rugged terraces of the foothills. After lunch we begin a breathtaking three hour ascent on foot to Syaule.

Day 5: From Syaule, the trail steepens at the foot of Kharmakharka Danda. As we continue our ascent we are rewarded by magnificent views of the Himalaya to the north. The forest campsite at Maitane should be reached by mid-afternoon.

Day 6: The trek continues with the ascent of Kharmakharka Danda (alt. 3162m). Higher up, the pine forests give way to rhododendron and wild juniper trees. Once at the top of the climb our hard work is rewarded by superb wide open views of the Himalayan peaks.

Day 7: The trail continues to climb until we reach the high point of the trek - the summit of Chyochyo Danda (alt. 3465m). From here we turn north-west and start the descent towards the Indrawati Valley and the campsite at Thalpangunsa.

Day 8: From Thalpangunsa the trail meanders through steep farming terraces where villagers will be preparing the fields for the monsoon planting season. After lunch in Dhap we continue to descend to the campsite close to the village of Tipheni.

Day 9: After an early breakfast we follow the banks of the Indrawati River to our final destination of Melamchi Pul. Amid the afternoon bazaars of the village, we board the coach and journey back to Kathmandu for our final evening and farewell dinner.

Day 10: Early morning departure back to London Heathrow.
