When I Grow Up

When I grow up, I’d like to be
A butterfly, a maple tree,
A movie star, a pirate: “Smee,”
When I grow up I’d like to be.

When I grow up, I’d like to drive
A limousine, a big bee hive,
A van of jazz stars born to jive,
When I grow up I’d like to drive.

When I grow up, I’d like to see
England, France, and Italy,
Commercials on my own TV,
When I grow up I’d like to see.

When I grow up, I’d like to own
My own sitcom, a fancy home,
A Persian rug, a telephone,
When I grow up I’d like to own.

When I grow up, I’d like to eat
Oreos, and Cream of Wheat,
Escargot, perhaps frog feet,
When I grow up I’d like to eat.

When I grow up, I’d like to know
How birds fly, and where they go.
What they mean by “inc.” and “co.,”
When I grow up I’d like to know.

When I grow up, I’d like to be
Whatever I think is right for me.
But now I think I’ll climb a tree,
‘Cause I’m not grown up yet...
tee-hee!
