Canicule
You were a fifth grade romance
I was sure would last forever:
so I sketched wedding dresses after school
and kept secret lists of our children’s names
How was I supposed to know
I couldn’t mold you
even though you’d have walked through fire for me?
I could ask you to do anything
except stay.
