Maple Sugaring
Sunday, 17 March 2019
It has started!
This week the sap started running well and we were able to boil for three days before the temperatures dropped and the sap run ended.  We made fourteen barrels, a good start but a long way to go.  Looks like the next run will probably be this coming Wednesday and Thursday.  We had fun with many visiting guests during this past week.

Waiting Game

With Mother Nature, sugaring can certainly be a waiting game.  The lines are all repaired, the trees are all tapped, the woodshed is full, now we wait for Mother Nature to send us the ideal temperatures to convince the trees that spring is here and to get the sap running.

And so, the waiting game is on.

Vermont Maple School

Monday, 28 January 2019

Saturday January 26, 2019 we at Ox Pasture Maples attended the annual maple school presented by the Vermont Maple Sugar makers in conjunction with the Vermont Extension Service.  The classes were great, bringing us all up to date with the advances in Maple Sugarmaking.  Lunch was provided, finishing with maple walnut ice cream drizzled with maple syrup.  Just more proof that maple is not just for pancakes.
Now, back to preparing for tapping and the first boiling of the season.
